大和井戸（Yamato Gah)

町端(マチバタ、現在の首里池端町)の唯一の共同井戸(ムラガー)、琉球石灰岩の掘抜井戸です。

大正の初め頃、宇久(ウヒナ)という大和人(ヤマトゥンチュ)が中心になって掘削したことで、大和ガーの名で呼ばれるようになったとの説があります。

平成25年度沖縄らしい風景づくりに係る人材育成事業」において、井戸にポンプ式取水器が設置され、地域住民による修復が行われました。

井戸周りの石張作業は熟練技術を要するため、職人の指導のもと地域住民による修繕作業が行われました。

また、地域の子ども達も参加して井戸周りにプランターを置き、自由に水を汲んで草花へ水やりができるようにしました。

現在、この井戸は地域で大切に維持管理されています。

 

This is the only communal well (muraga) in Machibata (present-day Shuri Ikehata-cho), a dugout well made of Ryukyu limestone.

It is said that around the beginning of the Taisho period (1912-1926), a Yamatonchu (Yamatojin) named Uhina played a central role in drilling this well, hence the name Yamatogar.

Under the "Human Resource Development Project for Creating Okinawan Scenery in 2013," a pump-type water intake device was installed in the well and restoration work was carried out by local residents.

Since stone lining around the well requires skilled techniques, local residents carried out the repair work under the guidance of craftsmen.

Local children also participated by placing planters around the well so that they could freely fetch water and water the plants and flowers.

The well is now carefully maintained and managed by the community.
